Andrew Bosworth, the chief technology officer of Meta Platforms Inc., recently delivered remarks during a Bloomberg Television interview that should cause concern among those who value personal freedom and individual merit. On the one hand, we have Meta unveiling its first pair of augmented reality glasses, a step towards an unsettling integration of technology that promises a hands-free alternative to the smartphone. But at what cost? As the elite technology class moves further away from the needs of everyday Americans, we must question their direction.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently proclaimed that Meta has waved a staggering $100 million in signing bonuses to lure top talent. Yet, what does this sum really signify? At a time when ordinary families are grappling with soaring inflation and government overreach, these tech giants disregard the very people who built their empires in the first place. It is alarming that while many layers of society suffer, we see a glittering contest for corporate talent that prioritizes money over values.

Andrew Bosworth described the current hiring climate as unprecedented in his two-decade career. This should send a strong message: the market may dictate soaring salaries, but the core principles of hard work and loyalty seem to be eroding in the face of corporate elitism.

The intensity of the AI hiring war reached new peaks last week, with Alexandr Wang of Scale AI deciding to join Meta to assist in developing superintelligence technology. While Meta plans to inject over $14 billion into Scale AI for a significant stake, one must wonder whether such colossal expenditures signify progress or merely a diversion from ethical responsibilities.

Recent maneuvers also illustrate the troubling nexus between big technology and their ambitions. Meta, having approached Safe Superintelligence and other startups for acquisition, seems intent on accelerating their growth by overshadowing smaller enterprises. This behavior not only exemplifies corporate greed but raises questions about the concentration of power in a few hands. Those who care about traditional values must scrutinize these alliances.

Meta’s aspirations for a superintelligent AI that ‘helps humans at every step’ sound benevolent on the surface. However, it is critical to ask whose interests this so-called assistance truly serves. As the company reported capital expenditures nearing $14 billion, it becomes clear that investments in personnel may not yield the innovative progress needed when there is an underlying disregard for ethical and moral standards. The government-driven inflation we are witnessing should not be further ENABLED by corporate strategies that undermine the small businesses that form the backbone of our economy.

Altman noted that, in addition to the bonuses pitched by Meta, substantial annual compensation is on the table. This exposes a troubling trend: while the tech sector rewards its elite, millions of Americans struggle to keep their heads above water in a climate of rising costs. The people who truly embody the spirit of personal responsibility and hard work deserve recognition and support, not the hollow promises of tech elites.

OpenAI declared $10 billion in annualized revenue earlier this month, even as it continues to bleed substantial losses. This dichotomy must not be lost on the average citizen. In our free-market economy, profits are pivotal, yet it is essential that they translate into meaningful benefits for hardworking individuals—not just bonuses for a privileged few.
